  • Suffered from stroke-level high blood pressure at 12 years of age and developed obesity-related irregular heart beat and heart murmur
  • Experienced extreme mood swings related to undiagnosed low-blood-sugar problems; failed scholastically; was considered the "loser" of the family
  • Was taunted and physically abused by her brother and teased unmercifully by classmates because of her weight
  • Stole, lied, and cheated to get the junk food she craved in order to feed her carbohydrate habit
  • Contemplated suicide because she could no longer endure the emotional pain and self-blame
  • Prayed for one thing and one thing only - to be normal.

When Richard Heller was a kid, he:

  • Suffered from a low-blood-sugar-related dyslexic-like learning disability that went undiagnosed and untreated and made him fear school
  • Barely made it through high school, managing to avoid the classes he could not handle because of his inability to concentrate and his learning and reading problems
  • Taught himself to read in order to try to get into college. He was accepted but flunked out because of his blood-sugar-related learning difficulties
  • Returned to college part-time and, by manipulating his diet, discovered ways to maximize his ability to concentrate and minimize his reading and learning problems

Dr. Richard Heller today has:

  • Has found the cure to his concentration and learning problems; now holds three academic degrees (BA, MS, Ph.D.)

  • Been appointed as professor at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine & City University of New York Graduate Center, retired, and Professor Emeritus at the City University of New York
  • With his wife, revolutionized research into the cause & treatment of carbohydrate addiction and has helped over one million people in their quest for freedom from struggle with their eating and weight
