Is Your Youngster Carbohydrate Addicted
Or Just Overindulging?

Some Clear Signs To Help You Decide

The carbohydrate-addicted child or teen typically:

  • would be happy to live on sandwiches, snack foods, junk food, and sweets
  • sometimes requests a snack or another dessert within two hours of eating a full meal that already included dessert
  • snacks on fruits often throughout the day
  • can become quite upset or irritable or may sneak food when junk food, snack foods, or sweets are denied
  • frequently consumes sugar-sweetened or artificially-sweetened drinks including sports drinks, powdered mixed drinks, fruit juices, fruit flavored drinks or sodas
  • is or may be overweight, hyperactive, and/or experiences extremes in moodiness, lack of motivation, lack of impulse control or an inability to concentrate*
  • often has at least one blood relative who may be carbohydrate addicted and/or has adult-onset diabetes
  • With physician's counsel, non-diet-related reasons for these conditions must first be ruled out.

Three or more of these signs indicate that a youngster has
a physical addiction to carbohydrate-rich foods.

    The carbohydrate-addicted youngster needs a
    special eating program
designed to restore insulin and blood sugar balance
as well as emotional, physical, and psychological well-being
    - all without struggle and without deprivation.
